In one corner of the ring, you have George Lopez and "Take Me Out". In the opposite corner, there's Cat Deeley & "The Choice." Both are new reality shows on The Fox TV Network. Both are also reminiscent of the old "Dating Game." I neither loved nor hated either show. Both were o-k-a-y.
"Take Me Out" features 30 presumably single eligible women, seeking a date with a presumably single, eligible run of the mill, ordinary Joe. In other words, he could be the guy next door. Imagine The Miss America Pageant, with 50 swim-suitted women clasping and unclasping their chests, while singing "Stop in the Name of Love." George Lopez, surprisingly, is actually funny here, and has some good one-liners. Normally I dislike his humor.
"The Choice" has 4 celebrity bachelors, who initially have their chairs turned around so that they're unable to see the 'auditioning' bachelorette. If they like what they hear, they spin around. If more than one guy turns around, the bachelorette gets to choose. If only one turns, that's her guy. "The Choice" is another version of "The Voice", but instead of singers auditioning vocally, you have scantily clad women attempting to snag a date with a star by purring, and cooing in their best sexy voice.
These shows are so similar, that I'm surprised that Fox is airing both, simultaneously. Perhaps they lack faith in either show, and fear they won't be able to draw in & hold viewers' interest.
I'll continue to watch "Take Me Out". "The Choice" seems pretty scripted and a more unreal reality show!!?? Say what? It's too rich for this old girls' blood. I've seen enough!
