Dear Reader ~ Remy Martin Tasting Event

I recently attended a Remy Martin Private Tasting Event.  The invitation came via email, and read:
"Come join Remy Martin for The Heart of Cognac Experience, and unforgettable evening of good friends and outstanding cognac.  If you have a passion for fine spirits and enjoy the thrill of discovery, this exclusive event is for you.  In addition to tasting some of our finest spirits, you will learn how Remy Martin captures the Heart of Cognac in every bottle."  Find the event and time in your area.  The event was held 9/10/1-9/13/12, beginning at 6pm.
I know, I know you're probably as shocked to be reading this, as I was to receive it.  The invite came as a surprise (to say the least), for several reasons.  First of all, I barely, rarely imbibe spirits, and then only socially.  Second, I haven't liked, disliked, been near anything remotely Remy Martin. Third, I haven't signed up for anything.  I do get that this is the Internet and nothing is private or sacred, but still to be offered a freebie?  I wondered if the invitation was related to the blog somehow. Well, a girl can dream can't she?
Anyway, I RSVP'd,  for 9/10, for the 6pm session, giving my cousin Pat's name as a guest.  The information said I'd receive a 'reminder' email a couple of days prior to the event.  Didn't happen.  We arrive, I check in, and am handed a badge with #2 on it for group 2, and a gold coin, which I was told was to be used to get my cocktail..  Pat had to fill out a question/answer form, which took about 10 mns. (there was a short line), then was given her badge and  gold coin.  Why this wasn't done ahead of time is beyond me.  Inside the conference room, tables were set up, there was a bar, and pictures lined the walls depicting the various flavors along with brief histories. Hostesses, each wearing a scanty, little, black dress circulated, answering questions and presumably making sure everyone was comfortable.  I describe their attire as scant(y) because the hemline was closer to the navel than to the knees.  Okay, so maybe I am a prude and need to get with the program!  Oh, did I mention that hors d'oeuvres were served?  One tray at least.  I was fortunate enough to get some.  By the time Pat got inside the room, they were apparently all gone.
I chose VSOP & Ginger Ale as my cocktail, telling the bartender, "a smidgen of Remy, heavy on the Ginger Ale."  Pat just had VSOP.  Remy is her drink of choice, by the way and has been for years.  The speaker  came in, introduced himself, there was a video, a tour, and tastings.  More like sips actually.
The attendees varied.  There were business people, white collar workers,  and one lady wearing a blue dress that appeared to sheer from the waist down. So I still don't know what the 'selection' criteria was. But all in all, it was interesting evening.  Perhaps I'd have enjoyed myself more if I were more of a drinker.  Pat enjoyed herself, which is good.  Guess the $10 for parking was well spent!
I do know the invitation wasn't blog related, as no pictures were allowed.   I did manage to take a few in the hallway, however.  Oh well, my time will come...
